June 2022 June 3-5 Virginia Senior Open, Friday - Sunday, June 3rd-5th at the Washington Dulles Marriott, 45020 Aviation Drive, Dulles, VA.  5 Rounds, Round 1 on Friday evening at 7:00 pm. All players must be 50 years old by June 3rd, 2022. June 5 Chess RVA "Cross-Round" Scholastic Chess Tournament. For players in pre-K through 8th Grade, with play in 2 sections (K-3 and 4-8). Round 1 at 2pm, event finishes at 5pm. Location is the "Unplugged Cafe", 1300 Sycamore Square, Midlothian. "Cross-Round" means that as soon as your game ends you are paired with the next available player whom you have not already played. June 24-26 2022 Virginia Open: $5,000 Prize Fund, Friday-Sunday at the Washington Dulles Marriott, 45020 Aviation Drive, Dulles, VA.  Blitz on Friday evening!!  Details soon at www.vachess.org.  3 Sections, 5 Rounds.  Championship and Amateur (U1800) are both FIDE and US Chess rated, Round 1 at 7:30 pm on Friday June 24th. July 2022 July 16-17 2022 Charlottesville Open.  Blitz on Friday 7/17, Main tournament on Saturday and Sunday July 16-17. July 31 - Aug 7th Annual US Open - A National Championship Event.
You can find out more info about the US Open at www.uschess.org.  There are MANY event formats, with a 9-day, 6-day and 4-day schedule, plus Quads and a Scholastic Tournament.  In other words you don't have to show up on July 31st to play.

Oct 15 Scholastic Tournament & Adult Quads at Meadowdale Public Library in Richmond, VA, on Saturday, Oct 15. Quads are for Adult players and Scholastic players whose US Chess over-the-board or online Regular Rating has exceeded 1200 at anytime in the past 6 months.  Scholastic play is in 4 Sections: K-12 or K-5 Rated, and K-12 or K-5 Not Rated. Dec 9-11 2022 National K-12 Grade Championships
The tournament has Blitz and Bughouse events on Thursday, Dec 8th.  In the main event, played Friday (starting around noon) through Sunday afternoon, kids play against opponents who are in their same grade in school--e.g., 3rd graders play only other 3rd graders, etc.  There are 13 sections in the tournament--from grades K through 12!

Dec 17-18 2022 Washington DC Chess Championships. Sat-Sun, Dec 17-18 at the Kellogg Conf. Hotel at Gallaudet Univ.(800 Florida Ave NE, Wash DC).  4 rounds of play, Swiss System.  Rounds at 9 am and 1:15 pm on Sat and Sun.  TWO SECTIONS, Open and Amateur (U1800).  No residency restrictions, event is OPEN to all players.  Entry Fee and Information at this web page. In addition to crowning a DC Champion and DC Amateur Champion, this event determines what DC-based Senior Player will represent DC at the 2023 Irwin Tournament of Senior State Champions during the US Open in Jul/Aug 2023.
Dec 18 Simultaneous Exhibition with IM William Morrison:

On Sunday, December 18th, 2022, Mr. Morrison will conduct a Simultaneous Exhibition, taking on all comers at once. The event will be held at THB Bagel Café, 3208 St. Paul Street, Baltimore and will start promptly at 11am. Mr. Morrison – known as “The Exterminator” for his cunning and thorough play - is an International Chess Master and seasoned chess coach. While pursuing a master’s degree at The University of Maryland Baltimore County, Mr. Morrison represented the school in international competitions including the Pan-Am Inter-collegiate Chess Championship.  He has also played world champions Anatoly Karpov and Gary Kasporov.
