All games will be US Chess rated so all players must be current members of the Virginia Chess Federation. Play is in 4 sections, K3, K5, K8, and K12 with individual and team awards possible. This is a national-level championship event organized and run by the US Chess Federation. Quads are for Adult players and Scholastic players whose US Chess over-the-board or online Regular Rating has exceeded 1200 at anytime in the past year. Scholastic play is in 4 Sections: K-12 or K-5 Rated, and K-12 or K-5 Not Rated. All girls are invited to register for the Girls Rock Tournament hosted by Hampton Roads Chess Association and supported by a generous grant from US Chess.  Held the weekend of June 2-4 in Virginia Beach, the tournament features a Friday evening pool and pizza party with new player orientation and swag bags (Tshirt included!), Saturday tournament for girls of all ages and abilities, and Sunday rock climbing together at a premier indoor rock gym.. December 2023 Dec 2 Eastern Chess Association December 2023 Action/Scholastic Tournament. A 1-day event to be held in Glen Allen, VA, at the Hilton Garden Inn on Saturday, Dec 2nd. Dec 2 Baltimore County Scholastic Quads. This is a US Chess rated quads style chess tournament. Each player is placed in a group of 4 players according to their age and rating. Each participant then plays one game against each of the other three players in their group. At the end of the third game, the winner of each group receives a trophy. For new players and players rated under 1000, quads typically finish in about 60-90 minutes. For players rated over 1000, quads typically take 90-120 minutes. Quads can take as long as 3 hours, although that is rare. Games are 25 minutes with a 5 second delay for each player, for players using clocks. Players can play in quads in the morning at 10am, the afternoon at 1pm, or both! Click here for more info.
