  • (Updated!!) The K-5 Section will use USCF Scholastic Blitz Rules (dated March 2009) will be used. Click here to see the latest rules.

  • (Updated!!) K-12 and Collegiate Sections all will use "normal" USCF Blitz Rules that use "touch-move."

  • Player EligibilityANY Scholastic or Collegiate player can play in the Blitz event.  YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A RESIDENT OF VIRGINIA, or be attending school in Virginia to play Blitz.

  • Click here to register for BLITZ.  Players not registered and paid for Blitz by 6 PM Friday March 12th will not be paired for the Blitz tournament.

  • ALL BLITZ GAMES WILL BE PLAYED ON FRIDAY EVENINGRound 1 is at 6:30 PM, follow-on Rounds will start 10 minutes after the previous round ends. 

  • If you prefer to register entirely by mail, click here for a mail-in entry form.

  • Three Sections:  K-5 and K-12, and Collegiate.  K-5 players can "play-up" into the K-12 Section, but no Scholastic players may enter the Collegiate Section.

  • Five Rounds of chess:

    • Time Control is Game-in-5 minutes, no time delay.

    • Players play two games each round, one game as White and one game as Black.  Both games are against the same opponent.

    • NO BYES.

  • Teams:  This is an Individual Event, with team points calculated as described on the Main Event Rules page.

  • Chess Sets and Boards are provided at the tournament.  YOU MUST HAVE A CHESS CLOCK TO PLAY BLITZ!!  We do not have enough clocks to loan them out for the tournament.

  • Chess Notation:  Is NOT required in the Blitz tournament!!  Aren't you glad!
