What: A 5-round tournament on the beautiful campus of Longwood University in Farmville, VA.
Format: 5 Rounds of chess with all players paired as one section using the "Swiss System."
Rounds 1-3 will use a time control of Game-90. Rounds 4-5 will be played at Game-120. These time controls include the addition of a 5-second time delay on all delay-capable clocks.
Eligible players earn points for the Chess Magnet School Junior Grand Prix.
Location: Blackwell Hall on the campus of Longwood University, Farmville, VA.

Parking for the tournament will be in the "Wheeler Lot" on Griffin Boulevard. See "Local Instructions" at the bottom of this page for details.
Prizes: $$500 cash b/o 20 players. 1st-3rd overall, $200-120-80 (Gtd); Top U1700 and Top U1200, $50 ea.
Entry Fees: $35 if received by February 8th, 2012. $45 on site. Sorry, no credit cards on site--cash or check only. Send payment to Mike Hoffpauir (see below), payable to VCF or Virginia Chess. Membership in the US Chess Federation is required, available at site. Go to the USCF and check the status of your membership so you can renew it before the tournament if you need to do so.

Before the Tournament: US Mail or Email.
US MAIL: Mail your entry by Feb 7th to Mike Hoffpauir, 405 Hounds Chase, Yorktown, VA 23693. Send the Player's Name, USCF ID, email address, and phone number. Checks payable to VCF or Virginia Chess.
EMAIL: The TD also will accept entries by email until 9PM on Friday, Feb 10th. Send the Player's Name, USCF ID and Phone Number to Mike Hoffpauir (mhoffpauir@aol.com). Registering by email on or before Feb 8th locks-in the $35 early entry fee, but you must arrive at the site and pay your Entry Fee by 9:30AM on Saturday Feb 11th.
The day of the Tournament: On-site on Feb 11 from 7:30-9:30AM. Entries received after 9:30 will not be paired until Round 2.

Round Times: Saturday Feb 11 (3 rounds) at 10AM, 2PM, and 6PM. Sunday Feb 12 (2 rounds) at 9AM and 1:30PM.
Byes: One half-point bye allowed if requested by 1:30PM Feb 11th (30 min before the start of Round 2).

Hotels: Here are a few of the hotels in Farmville ... a Days Inn ($76), a Comfort Inn ($104), a Super 8 ($51), and a Hampton Inn ($129). The rates shown here are prices we saw on the internet as of Feb 1, they are NOT "chess rates". We do not have a special hotel deal, so you need to contact these hotels using each chain's normal reservation methods. You might try using various member discounts such as AAA, etc., to get yourself a better rate.
Local Instructions: To reach Wheeler Parking Lot on Campus ...
From downtown Main Street: turn onto High Street at the traffic light in front of the Farmville Town Hall. Travel approximately four blocks to the next traffic light. Turn left onto Griffin Boulevard. Proceed for about one block. Turn right onto Chambers Street, then turn right into the Wheeler Lot.
From Main Street by the Southgate Shopping Center (Kroger’s): At the traffic light, turn on to Griffin Boulevard. Proceed for about ¾ miles and turn left Chambers Street. Then turn right into the Wheeler Lot.
Walking directions from Wheeler Lot to Blackwell Hall: Walk across Griffin Boulevard to the campus side of the street. Follow the sidewalk to High Street and turn right. Continue following the sidewalk along side of High Street to Ruffner Hall with its signature Rotunda. Enter Ruffner Hall and proceed to the double glass door in the rear of the grand foyer. This will take you into Blackwell Hall.
