The Virginia Chess Federation (VCF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the game of chess across the State of Virginia. Founded in 1934, the VCF is one of the oldest chess organizations in the United States.

The VCF regularly sponsors a slate of high quality chess tournaments, including the Virginia Closed Championship every Labor Day Weekend, a tournament which has produced an impressive roster of champions over the past 65+ years. For over 40 years the VCF has sponsored the Virginia Open in mid-January. The Charlottesville Open in July and the Zofchak Memorial in November are both in their second decade. In 1976 and again in 1996 the VCF hosted the U.S. Open.

One of the VCF's most valuable services is its bimonthly magazine, the Virginia Chess Newsletter, edited since 1991 by two time state champion NM Macon Shibut.

Virginia has one of the leading state scholastic chess programs, and one of the key elements in this is the Virginia Scholastic Championships, which typically attracts hundreds of students from all over the state every March.

A subscription to the Virginia Chess Newsletter is included in the cost of a Virginia Chess Federation membership.

A regular adult membership is $10 a year; a junior membership (Under age 18) is $5.
