A 4-round Swiss at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott Dulles Airport,
22595 Shaw Rd, Sterling, VA. Time Control is Game 30, delay 5. Two
Sections: Open and Under 1500. Round 1 at 4 pm, with follow-on rounds as
soon as possible. Enty is $30 on or before Wednesday the week of the
tournament, increases to $35 on Thursday, increases to $40 on Sunday on
site. Free entry to players rated over 2200 USCF. Minimum rating for the

Friday Night Blitz at the 2025 Virginia Closed! At the site of the Virginia closed (see below). 4
double-rounds of blitz at a time control of Game-5, delay-0 (each player
has 5 minutes to make their moves). You play two games each round, one
as White and one as Black. $650 in cash prizes guaranteed across 2
sections of play--Open and Under 1600. A rating of 1400 or higher is
required to play in the Open Blitz section. All Unrated players must play in the
Under 1600 Blitz section. Round 1 at 7:30 PM. Registration onsite opens at
3 PM and closes about 7:15 PM. No Byes allowed. Sets and clocks provided

(Revised Format.) Friday Oct 10 through Monday, Oct 13,
with $10,000 in prizes based on 150 entries
(60% payout guaranteed). In Dulles, VA, at the Washington Dulles Airport
Marriott (click
here for reservations). Multiple sections, Open &
U2000 are FIDE-rated with 7 rounds of play. Minimum FIDE or USCF rating
of 1800 since Jan 1, 2024, to play in Open Section. Players rated
1600-1799 can also play in Open Section by paying an additional $100
with their entry fee. 9-rounds of play in the Swiss System. No players
under 1600 in the Open Section. This is NOT a Norm-qualifying
tournament. 4-Day Schedule is FIDE-rated, 3-Day schedule is NOT
FIDE-rated in Rounds 1 and 2. Other Sections are Under 1600 (7 rounds
with 4-day and 3-day schedule options), Under 1200 (2-days, 6 rounds),
and a 1-day Scholastic Section.
Default/NO-SHOW RULE is 30 MINUTESS for all Sections.
Re-entry for $50 for players who lost in Round 1, but this option
consumes you one (1) optional half-point bye. Free Entry to
GM/WGM/IM/WIM registered by October 1st (early entry fee deducted from

2025 U.S. Armed Forces Open (USAFO)
Chess Championships.
This is a US Chess National Championship event.
Current planning calls for the
2025 to be hosted by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
The agreement is being worked and is not yet finalized.The annual USAFO
is open to all active duty US Military, retired US Military, former
members of the US armed forces, cadets from the nation's military
academies (Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine), and
college ROTC students. The tournament has 5 rounds, two on Saturday and
Sunday, and one on Monday. Play is organized in 2 Sections, with the
"Championship" section open to active duty, retirees, and academy / ROTC
cadets, and the "Veterans" section for former members of the armed
forces. Both Sections are FIDE and US Chess rated. Two rounds on Sat
and Sun, and one round on Mon at a time control of Game-90, increment
30. This event is both FIDE- and US Chess-rated. For more information,

We are planning for the tournament to be in Fredericksburg, VA, at the
Country Inn & Suites Fredericksberg South. This is a FIDE-rated, 5-round
tournament that begins on Friday evening and ends on Sunday. The time
control is Game-90, increment 30. The Top Virginia player in this
tournament earns the right to represent The Commonwealth in the annual
Irwin Tournament of State Senior Champsions held Aug 3-6, 2026, in
conjunction with the US Open which will be in Grand Rapids, MI. Get more
