Tournament Schedule & Awards

   Friday, March 8th

• 9 PM:  Deadline for ALL PLAYERS TO REGISTER AND PAY FOR THE MAIN TOURNAMENT.

• ON-SITE  / LATE REGISTRATION (last chance for any player to Register):  

  • At Monticello High School, site of the tournament.  Registration on-site opens at 4PM.

  • Late Registration for the Main Tournament ends at 9 PM Friday evening.

  • There is no registration desk on Saturday or Sunday. 

  • Late Registration fee is $65 per player for the Main Event, $30 for Blitz, and $35 for the "Parents & Friends" Tournament.  "Late Registration" is defined as any player entering an event after Midnight on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019.

  • The phone number at the Registration Desk will be 757-846-4805.

  • Players who have not paid their fees by 9PM on Friday evening at the Tournament Site will NOT BE PAIRED for Round 1 of the Tournament unless cleared to play by the Chief Tournament Director on a case-by-case basis.

• Check-in:  You need to "check-in" at Monticello High School after 4PM on Friday March 8th ONLY IF you:

  • Want to play in the Blitz Tournament and have not paid or registered

  • Need to pay your entry fees for the Main Event, or you still need to register

  • Need to change Sections (e.g. you registered in K-12 Championship but would rather play in K-12 Under 1400).

  • Need to change a player's or your Team's registration information

  • Want to check on or pay for your Team Room

  • Have other questions about the Tournament

• Blitz:  Round 1 at 6:00 PM on Friday, March 8th

  • ON-SITE Registration and Payment for Blitz is from 4-5:15 PM.  Players not paid by 5:15 PM will not be paired for Round 1 of the Blitz Tournament.

  • We expect Blitz to finish about 8:30 PM.

  • Blitz awards will be distributed on Saturday, before we start Rounds 2 and 3 of the Main Tournament ... see below.

   Saturday and Sunday, March 9th & 10th

• School Opens at 8AM Saturday Morning.

• Opening Ceremony:  In the Gymasium at 8:50 AM.

• Scholastic Sections:  5 Rounds, with 3 rounds on Saturday and 2 rounds on Sunday

  • SATURDAY:

    • Round 1:  9 AM, Time control is Game-60, 5-second time delay (G60/d5)

      • 11:00 AM:  Deadline to declare Byes for Rounds 2-5; One Bye allowed per player.

    • Round 2:  12-noon, G60/d5.  K-5 Blitz Awards 10 minutes before the start of Round 2.

    • Simultaneious Exhibition:  Starts about 1PM ... after players start finishing their Round 2 games.

    • Round 3:  4:30 PM, Game-90, 5-second time delay (G90/d5).  K-12 Blitz Awards 10 minutes before Round 3.

    • TIME CHANGE TONIGHT -- SET YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD 1 HOUR.

  • SUNDAY: 

    • Round 4:  8:30 AM, G90/d5

    • Round 5:  12:30 PM, G90/d5

• College Section:  All Games are played on Saturday.

  • Round Times:  9AM, 12-noon, 3 PM and 6 PM.  Deadline to declare Byes for Rounds 2-4 is 11:30AM; One Bye allowed per player.  Awards immediately after Round 4.

  • Time Control for all four rounds is Game-60 with a 5-second delay.

• Parents & Friends Tournament:  4 Rounds, 2 Saturday and 2 Sunday.

  • SATURDAY:

    • 11:00 AM:  Deadline to Sign-up for Parents & Friends.  Sign-up at the Tournament Director's Office.

    • Round 1:  12:15 PM, Game-45, with a 5-second time delay

      • 3:45 PM:  Deadline to sign-up for a 1/2-point Bye in Rounds 2, 3 or 4.

    • Round 2:  4:45 PM, Game-60, with a 5-second time delay

  • SUNDAY: 

    • Round 3:  8:45 AM, Game-60, delay 5

    • Round 4:  12:45 PM, Game-60, delay 5.  Awards immediately after the round (Book Store Gift Certificates - NO CASH or CASH EXCHANGES for Gift Certificates).

• BLITZ Awards:   Individual Awards 10 minutes before the start of Round 2, TEAM Awards 10 minutes before the start of Round 3.

• Awards Ceremonies:  By-section, about 20-30 minutes after a Section completes its last game.
