Prize Fund is $3,000 based on 85 paid entries ... higher payouts if we get more players!!

Dates:  Saturday - Monday, August 30th - September 1st, 2014 

Format:  6 Rounds using the Swiss System.  Time Control for all rounds is 30 moves in 90 minutes, followed by Sudden Death in 60 minutes, with a 5-second Time Delay. 


Hotel:  The HILTON GARDEN INN IS CONFIRMED!!   Room Rate is $92 per night.  You have until Friday, the 15th of August to make your reservation ... that's a week more than in the past!  To reserve your room and get the $92 rate, call the hotel at 804-521-2900 and mention the Virginia Chess Federation Tournament.  If you are willing to pre-pay your room for your entire stay, you can save money by booking directly through Hilton at www.hilton.com (the hotel is the "Hilton Garden Inn Innsbruck, Glen Allen, VA).

Eligibility:  Open to all Virginia residents, Military stationed in Virginia, and students attending any VA school or college (must show valid ID or other proof of Fall 2014 school enrollment). 
    - USCF Membership required to play, renew now at www.uschess.org and make your tournament entry easier to process.  You can purchase a membership at the tournament, if you wish.
    - VA Chess Federation Membership required for all players.  $10 Adults, $5 for juniors (18 and under).

SECTIONS:  Two Sections
    - Open:  $650-375-275, Top Expert & A $125 ea. Trophy to 1st, Top Exp & A. 
    - Amateur (Under 1800):  $525-325-200. Top C, D, U1200, Unr $100 each. Trophy to 1st, Top C, D, U1200. Trophies to top Senior (60+), Junior (U18) and Woman with 1pt added to Open Section score.

Registration:  Two ways to register (we may add on-line entry and payment soon ...)
    - Mail:  Complete the Mail-in Entry Form post-marked by Tuesday Aug 26th and send your Entry and Payment to  Mike Hoffpauir, ATTN: VA Closed, 405 Hounds Chase, Yorktown, VA 23693. Checks to "VCF".  
    - On-Site:  At the Hotel on Friday Aug 29 from 3-6:00 pm and Sat Aug 30, 8:00 am-12-noon. Walk-ins arriving after 12-noon risk not being paired for Rd 1.

Entry Fee:  $65 IF WE RECEIVED IT BY Aug 28, $80 thereafter and on site.  Re-entry allowed for Rd.2 only at $30 with 1/2 pt bye as your Rd 1 score. 

Round Times:  Two 1/2 pt byes available, must declare 30 min before Rd 2.
    - Saturday:   Rds 1 and 2 at 1pm & 7pm
    - Sunday:  Rds 3 and 4 at 11am & 5pm
    - Monday:  Rds 5 and 6 at 10am & 3:30pm.
