Donate to Virginia Chess

  • The tournament consists of three events:

    • The Blitz Tournament: Friday evening March 8th, with Round 1 at 6:30 pm. We play 4 rounds, maybe 5, depending on the number of players. Games end about 8:30.

    • The 5-round "Main Event": Saturday and Sunday, with Round 1 at 9 am.

    • A Parents & Friends (P&F) Tournament: Saturday and Sunday, with Round 1 at 12:45 pm on Saturday.

  • There are 9 Sections of play in the Main Event:

    • K-3 Championship & K-3 Under 600.  The K-3 Under 600 Section is for players rated 599 and below, including Unrated players.

    • K-5 Championship & K-5 Under 1000.  K-5 Under 1000 is for players rated 999 and below, including Unrated players.

    • K-8 Championship & K-8 Under 1200.  K-8 Under 1200 is for players rated 1199 and below, including Unrated players.

    • K-12 Championship & K-12 Under 1400.  K-12 Under 1400 is for players rated 1399 and below, including Unrated players.

    • College. Open only to players enrolled in college, not open to HS students attending college. The College Games are only on Saturday.

    • NOTE: Unrated Players can play in the Championship or Under section within their grade group.

  • Use the "Hotels" button on the left to see the hotel options we have arranged near the tournament site.

    • There are 5 hotels to choose from, and they are all an easy 5-min drive from the High School.

  • WE WILL USE THE MARCH 2024 US Chess Rating Supplement. The March Rating Supplement will be on line with US Chess starting on/about Thursday or Friday, February 15th or 16th. If you are not sure how to look-up a player's rating, contact us here.
